Aspire - Leadership for the future

case study:

1-to-1 and Group Coaching at The Women’s Resource Centre

Womens Resource Centre

Background

Aspire worked in partnership with The Women’s Resource Centre on the Learning and Skills Council programme to provide high level business management, leadership training, and support to 180 women from micro- and small businesses, including the voluntary and community sector and social enterprises.

The Women’s Resource Centre supports women’s organisations to be more effective and sustainable. They provide training, information, resources, and one-to-one support on a range of organisational development issues. They also lobby decision makers on behalf of the women’s not-for-profit sector for improved representation and funding on behalf of some of the most marginalised communities of women.

1-to-1 and Group Coaching

135 women were recruited to the coaching programme, which consisted of 1-to-1 and group sessions. It was delivered in six sessions over three months. The women were selected through interview and matched with a personal coach.

Coaching was seen as adding great value and an innovative aspect of the project. Clients found that there was a tremendous benefit of being coached along with being trained as it integrated learning and work together. Research suggests that you are three times more likely to apply what you have learned through training to the workplace if you are coached. Coaching was seen as a very powerful and empowering tool that allowed women to take action and be accountable while being provided with moral and emotional support in an empathetic and supportive environment.

Results

“It helped me put the theory into practice.”
Participant

“I have really valued the time and effort my coach put into my coaching, and for the insight I have gained into what makes me tick. I have recognised the areas of improvement that I need to work on, but more importantly, developed a ream of good habits that I can use to deal with life.”
